LOS ANGELES – UCLA scored four runs on just one hit in the first inning and then held off Oregon to win game one, 6-3, of the three-game series at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Thursday night.

How it happened: Control issues by Matt Krook put the Ducks in an early hole. The Ducks’ lefty hit the leadoff hitter before walking the second batter. UCLA’s Luke Persico made Krook pay with a RBI single to left field to put the Bruins on top 1-0. Krook walked the next two to make it 2-0, and then UCLA (16-18, 7-9 Pac-12) added two more on a passed ball by Slade Heggen and a RBI groundout by Trent Chatterton. The Bruins tacked on two more in the fourth inning. Daniel Rosica led off the inning with a double and came around to score on a single by Eric Filia, who scored later when Ducks reliever Cooper Stiles hit Christoph Bono with the bases loaded. Oregon got the two runs back in the top of the fifth. Pinch-hitter Phil Craig-St. Louis launched a two-run home run over the right-field wall to cut the lead to 6-2. The Ducks (17-14, 7-6 Pac-12) added a run in the seventh to cut the lead to 6-3. Kyle Kasser singled off UCLA starter Griffin Canning with the bases loaded to score Daniel Patzlaff.

Box score notes: The 1.2 inning outing for Krook was the second shortest of his career. He lasted just 0.2 innings in a loss at Mississippi State on March 12 … Krook allowed just one hit but gave up five walks and hit a batter … Craig-St. Louis’ homer was his third of the season and his first since March 4. It was also his fifth career long ball, the third most on the Ducks’ roster … Stiles had his longest outing of the season going 4.1 innings. He allowed no runs on just one hit and fanned two.

On deck: The Ducks and Bruins will play game two of their series Friday night at 7 p.m. Junior left-hander Cole Irvin (3-3, 4.01) will take the mound for the Ducks, while junior righty Grant Dyer (1-2, 6.50) will be on the mound for the Ducks.
