PULLMAN, WA. – Seventh-ranked Oregon State jumped out to an early lead en route to a 12-3 win over Washington State Thursday in the opener of a three-game series at Bailey-Brayton Field.
The Beavers led 9-0 after two innings, thanks in large part to first-inning doubles by Jack Anderson and Kyle Nobach. Anderson’s found the gap in left with two down to drive in three and Nobach drilled a pitch down the third-base line to make it 4-0 in favor of Oregon State.
A five-run second inning extended the lead further. KJ Harrison doubled in the first two runs of the inning, and Nobach doubled in the final two. Logan Ice also doubled in a run that inning as the Beavers tallied six doubles in the first two innings.
Overall, the Beavers (23-7 overall, 6-4 Pac-12 Conference) finished with eight hits. But Oregon State also walked 10 times off four Washington State pitchers, tying a season high.
Anderson and Nobach each had two hits to lead OSU offensively. Nobach’s multi-hit effort was his team-leading 12th of the season while Anderson’s was his 10th of the year.
Travis Eckert took the run support and held Washington State to two runs and eight hits in seven innings of work. He did not issue a walk, struck out six and improved to 4-2 on the year.
The Beavers chased Washington State (10-20, 3-10) starter Trenton Dupre after just two innings. The lefty allowed seven hits and 10 runs – six earned – with four walks. He took the loss to drop to 0-3 on the year.
