NEWBERG – Roseburg native Noah Avery finished off a historic run for the Lewis & Clark College track and field team at the Northwest Conference decathlon championships on Tuesday. Avery finished the two-day, 10-event competition in third place, ranking sixth on the the school’s all-time performance list.

Avery totaled 6,068 points, the fourth-best total in a Division III decathlon this season, with top four finishes in the 100 meters, shot put, high jump, pole vault, long jump, discus and javelin. He finished behind George Fox’s Alex Canchola who won the title with 6,495 points. 

Avery, and teammate David Lovitz, became the first Pioneer athletes to compete in the decathlon conference championships since 2003. Avery’s performance earned the Lewis & Clark track and field team six points for the conference meet held at April 22-23.
