ROSEBURG – The Roseburg softball team emphatically claimed their spot as one of the top teams in the Southwest Conference with an 8-0 win over Grants Pass on Tuesday.
The Indians entered the game tied with Grants Pass, North Medford, and South Medford for first place in the conference standings. After shutting out the Lady Cavers, Roseburg remains in first place tied only with North Medford, which defeated South Medford Tuesday.
Roseburg senior Ashley Martin tossed a complete game, two-hitter and struck out 14 Grants Pass batters. Martin also went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, which came in a big four-run first inning for the Indians. Freshman Madysn Blevins also had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Up next for Roseburg is a trip to Redding, CA for a midseason tournament beginning on Friday. The Indians will play two games Friday and another two on Saturday to wrap up play on the road.
