SPRINGFIELD – The Roseburg softball team lost its conference opener against Thurston on an inside the park home run in extra innings Tuesday.

The Indians took a 4-0 lead in the top half of the fourth inning, but the Colts tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth.

Thurston took a lead in the sixth inning and led 7-5 going to the seventh. The Indians rallied to score three times on three straight singles, a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice flyout in the seventh. Roseburg led 8-7 and was down to needing just one more out to earn the win, but a bases loaded walk on a full count brought home the game-tying run and the contest went to extra innings.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Thurston’s Tasha Holland hit an inside the park home run to walk-off with the 9-8 victory.

Roseburg will seek its first conference win on Saturday with a doubleheader at home against Willamette.
