CORVALLIS – Christian Donahue hit his first career home run and Trever Morrison and Kyle Nobach each tripled as the sixth-ranked Oregon State baseball team defeated San Diego State, 9-6, Tuesday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

Tommy Paul worked 2 1/3 scoreless innings for his first career win, and the Beavers improved to 17-6 on the year. San Diego State, meanwhile, dropped to 6-17.

The Beavers rapped out 10 hits off six San Diego State pitchers, with Morrison pacing the club with three. His eighth-inning triple scored two and gave the Beavers a four-run cushion, which helped as SDSU scored once in the ninth and stranded two when Max Engelbrekt picked up his ninth save of the season.

Donahue’s first career home run capped of a seven-run fifth inning that saw the Beavers overcome an early 3-0 lead by San Diego State. Billy King drove in a run to open the inning, then watched as the Beavers tied the game with a two-run single.

KJ Harrison singled in his 20th run of the season and Donahue made it 7-3 in favor of Oregon State with a towering three-run home run off reliever Dominic Purpura.

Paul, meanwhile, relieved starter Jordan Britton in the fifth and held the Aztecs to just two walks in 2 1/3 innings. He improved to 1-0 on the year.

Britton started and allowed three runs and three hits in four innings. His lone blemish came in the first on a three-run double by Tyler Adkison. Britton then settled down and retired his next 10 batters before giving wa to Paul.

Oregon State is back in action Friday when hosting Washington in the start of a three-game series at Goss Stadium. First pitch is at 3:05 p.m. Pregame coverage starts at 2:30 p.m. on 1490 The Score.
