ROSEBURG – Roseburg starting pitcher Chris Stone struck out 11 batters and Will Reddekopp drove in two runs to lead the Indians’ baseball team to a 2-1 win over top-ranked Grants Pass on Tuesday.

Grants Pass managed just six hits off of Stone, who didn’t allow an earned run and didn’t give up a walk while earning his first win of the year. Stone pitched all seven innings and held the Cavemen to their lowest run total of the season.

The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Reddekopp that scored Chance Beecher. Roseburg started the inning by loading the bases with no outs, but only managed to score the one run against Grants Pass starter Cody Ekwall.

The Cavemen tied the game in the top of the third. Tyler Rund reached on a throwing error by Reddekopp and later scored on a sac fly by Chris D’Amico.

Roseburg threatened to retake the lead in the third and fourth innings, but left runners at third base both times. The Indians finally gained the advantage in the fifth inning. Zach Watkins reached base on his third single of the game. Three batters later, Reddekopp launched a sac fly to right field. Watkins tagged up and just beat out the throw to the plate to put the Indians up 2-1.

Roseburg and Grants Pass continue their three-game series on Saturday with a doubleheader at All Sports Park in Grants Pass. Game one of the twin bill is scheduled to start at noon. • This was a great team win. I listened to the game on 1490 and Joey did a great job on his play by play. Chris stone sounded on fire and shut down that top ranked offense. Can’t wait to listen this Saturday and good luck to the tribe.
