NEW YORK – Roseburg native and Oregon State redshirt senior Seth Thomas went 1-1 on the first day of the NCAA Tournament Thursday. Thomas lost his first match 13-4 against 8-seed Chad Welch from Purdue. The loss dropped Thomas into the consolation bracket, where he picked up his first win ever at the NCAA Tournament. Thomas defeated Dakota Juarez of Eastern Michigan 8-5 to advance to the second day of the tournament.
Up next for Thomas is a match against 7-seed Anthony Perrotti of Rutgers, who was upset by the 10-seed in a second round match Thursday.
No. 24 Oregon State had all six of its wrestlers at the NCAA Tournament advance to the second day of the meet. Beavers head coach Jim Zalesky said Thursday that he thinks this is the first time that every OSU wrestler that qualified for the NCAA Tournament has made it to the second day.
