Oregon State freshman Tres Tinkle ruled out for the first weekend of NCAA Tournament.

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State men’s basketball team received great news on Selection Sunday, when the team was announced as a 7-seed for the NCAA Tournament. Now the Beavers’ first round game against VCU is approaching and it appears they won’t be getting more good news they had been hoping for.

Freshman forward Tres Tinkle, son of head coach Wayne Tinkle, has been scratched from the Beavers’ lineup for the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament, coach Tinkle told The Oregonian on Tuesday. The younger Tinkle has missed four games with a right foot injury and was doubtful heading into the Beavers’ first NCAA Tournament appearance in 26 years. The freshman averaged 13.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game and played all 27 games before his injury. Tinkle started the season coming off the bench before entering the starting lineup for his last 11 games.

Freshman guard Stephen Thompson Jr. has started all games in Tinkle’s place, averaging 16 points per game in that role.

Oregon State and VCU tipoff at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Hear the game on 1490 The Score.
