TUALATIN – The Roseburg girl’s basketball team got out to a sluggish start and never could recover as the Indians lost 55-38 to the Tualatin Timberwolves in the 1st round of a 6A state playoffs on Tuesday.

Roseburg and Tualatin went scoreless for the first half of the opening period, but the Indians got on the board first to take a 2-0 lead. It was the only lead Roseburg would hold the entire contest.  Tualatin rallied to finish the quarter on a 13-3 run and led the Indians by eight going to the second quarter.

The Timberwolves stretched the lead to 13 points by the halftime break for their largest lead of the game to that point.

After the break, Roseburg managed to cut the deficit to just five points, but the Timberwolves quickly got the lead back to double figures and stretched the margin to its widest point at 19. The Indians closed the gap to 39-29 at the end of three quarters and managed to get back within single digits late in the game, but Tualatin sealed the victory from the free throw line.

Roseburg was led by senior Jordan Stotler, who tied for the game-high with 16 points. Jessie Farrington scored 15 and was the only other Roseburg player in double figures.

Tualatin had three players in double figures, led by senior Hannah Self who scored 16. Tamika Etherly added 12 and Jen Crane contributed 10.

The loss ends Roseburg’s season short of making the second round for a fourth straight season. The Indians graduate six seniors.
