UMPQUA VALLEY –  The basketball season is on the line for the local high school teams in action on Friday.

The Douglas girls earned a home play-in game against Newport by beating North Bend and Marshfield in league playoff games to decide seeding. The Lady Trojans finished as the 2-seed out of the Far West League and will host the Cubs in hopes of getting to the first round of the 4A state playoffs. The Douglas girls and Newport tipoff from Winston at 7 p.m.

The second round of the 1A girls playoffs tipoff Friday night as well. The No. 3 North Douglas Lady Warriors are coming off a first round bye as league champs and take the court for the first time in the post season when No. 14 Powder Valley visits Drain. The game starts at 6 p.m. The No. 11 Elkton girls advanced out of the first round with a 30-point victory and next visits No. 6 Condon/Wheeler. The game begins at 6:30 p.m.

There’s more high school post season basketball coming up on Saturday. The No. 1 Yoncalla boys host No. 16 Triangle Lake at 7 p.m. in the second round of the 1A playoffs, the No. 16 Oakland boys visit No. 1 Regis at 7 p.m. in the first round of the 2A playoffs, and the South Umpqua boys travel to Junction City for a 4A play-in game at 6:30 p.m.
