ROSEBURG – The Roseburg girl’s basketball team was celebrating senior night and hoped to finish with a sweep of North Medford to claim a third place finish in the Southwest Conference, but the two teams once again played a tight contest that was decided in dramatic fashion in the fourth quarter.
The Indians took a four-point lead into the fourth quarter, but North went on an 18-6 run to pull ahead. Roseburg fought back in the waning moments and Baylee Wyscaver had a look at the game-winning shot before the buzzer, but was off the mark and the Black Tornado pulled off the 48-47 victory.
Jordan Stotler scored 14 points to lead Roseburg and tied for the game-high with North Medford’s Maggie Freeman. Jessie Farrington was also in double figures for Roseburg, scoring 11 points.
The Roseburg girls finished 4th in conference and will wait to find out their first round assignment for the state playoffs. The Indians are currently 17th in the OSAA rankings, which would mean they most likely travel for a first round playoff game against the 16th ranked team. There are a handful of games left to be played on Wednesday and the rankings freeze Wednesday at 10 p.m.
The girls 6A state playoffs begin on Tuesday, March 1st.
