COQUILLE – A three-way tie for second place in the Far West League led to an impromptu league playoff to decide seeding for the OSAA state playoffs.
The Douglas girls finished the league season 6-4, tied with Marshfield and North Bend. The Lady Trojans faced North Bend on Monday for the first of two Far West playoff games and prevailed 41-39 to earn a shot against Marshfield on Tuesday.
Dallas Rincon nailed two free throws with 28 seconds left in the contest to break a 37-37 tie and Ally Schofield added two more from the line to keep Douglas ahead of Marshfield. Darian Mitchell led the Lady Trojans with a game-high 15 points.
Douglas now squares off against Marshfield on Tuesday to decide which team will take the 2-seed from the Far West League and earn a home play-in game later in the week. The loser will also get a play-in game, but might have to travel instead of host.
Douglas and Marshfield tipoff at 7 p.m. from Coquille High School.
