UMPQUA VALLEY – The field for the 4A state wrestling meet is now set after district meets were completed over the weekend. The Douglas, South Umpqua, and Sutherlin teams all qualified a few wrestlers for the state meet coming up in Portland this weekend.

The Douglas Trojans placed 6th at the Special District 3 meet held at Henley High School in Klamath Falls. The South Umpqua Lancers finished 10th at the same meet.
Douglas had five wrestlers qualify for state by placing in the top four of their respective weight class. Moving on to state for the Trojans is Cole Waldron (120 lbs.), Kane Smith (120 lbs.), Carter Dahl (160 lbs.), Brayden Schultz (182 lbs.), and Tyler Palmer (220 lbs.).
Qualifying from South Umpqua is Owen Sinsaeng (120 lbs.), Cameron Crenshaw (132 lbs.), and Josh Buehler (195 lbs.).
Sutherlin finished 7th at the Special District 2 meet held at Elmira High School and had three wrestlers qualify for state. Moving on for the Bulldogs is Brandon Carrillo (138 lbs.), Andrew Smalley (195 lbs.), and Justin Crumm (220 lbs.).
The state wrestling fields for all classifications are now set and the tournament begins on Friday in Portland at the Memorial Coliseum. Along with the competitors at the 4A level, the Umpqua Basin will be well represented at all classifications.
Roseburg is going for its third straight state title and 8th in 10 years. The Indians have 19 wrestlers competing at the 6A meet. The Glide Wildcats will try to get back to the top of the team standings and win their third state title in four years. The Wildcats will take 10 wrestlers to state.
Also competing at the state meet are Derrick Hargraves (113 lbs.) and Charles Hardage (132 lbs.) from Riddle and Bryan Corbett (182 lbs.) from Glendale.
