JUNCTION CITY – The Sutherlin girl’s basketball team wrapped up the regular season with its 5th straight unbeaten league season going 10-0 to win the Sky-Em League for the second straight year. The Lady Bulldogs finished the regular season by rolling over the pesky Junction City Tigers 54-30 Friday night at Junction City.

The Bulldogs fell behind 8-4 in the early going, but then went on a 15-point run to lead by 11 after the first period. Taylor Stricklin scored 15 first quarter points.  She finished with 28 points for the game. The Tigers hung around though, and it was only a 12-point difference at the half.
In the third quarter, senior Sam Tilley gave the offense a boost with 8 of her 12 points, including two 3-pointers and the Bulldog defense held the Tigers to just seven points, stretching the lead to 19.  They continued to pull away in the 4th quarter to take the win by 24. Senior Kayce Mock added 12 points for Sutherlin.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 23-1 for the season, but will still have to wait to see how the OSAA Power Rankings come out to see if they will get a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The playoffs are set for Friday March 4th for the girls.
The Sutherlin boys couldn’t get much offense going and fell behind 18-4 after a quarter and could never recover as Junction City ran away with a 57-25 victory. The quick, hard-nosed defense by the Tigers caused numerous turnovers and they converted them into many easy baskets. The Tigers showed why they are rated high in the state rankings with senior Josh Hutchinson leading the way with 15 points. Fellow senior Hayden Martinez had 14 and seven different players scored.
Sutherlin dropped to 11-13 and finished the league at 3-7 after winning the league title last year. Junction City improved to 6-4 in the league, good for a second place finish, and 16-7 overall.  They will be in the playoffs, but they fell to #9 in the Power Rankings and will likely just miss having a home game.
