MEDFORD – The Roseburg girls gave conference-leading South Medford their best shot on Tuesday night, but the Panthers withstood the pressure to win 65-50 and drop the Indians to fourth place in the Southwest Conference standings.

The Indians held a narrow advantage early before things started to fall apart. South Medford (20-3; 12-0 SWC) took an 11-point lead going into halftime, but Roseburg (14-8; 7-5 SWC) rallied back to within five points midway through the third quarter. The lead remained less than 10 until there were about four minutes left in the contest and South Medford got back-to-back threes to stretch the lead to 14 points.

The loss puts Roseburg alone in fourth place in the conference standings. If the Indians stay in fourth they will make the state playoffs, but they need one more victory to clinch a fourth place finish. Up next Roseburg will visit Willamette on Friday.

FAR WEST LEAGUE

The Douglas girls got a 58-34 win over Siuslaw on the coast Tuesday and the Lady Trojans are still in the running for a top 3 finish in the Far West League. Douglas is tied for third place with North Bend with one game left to play in the regular season. The two teams split their regular season series, with the home team winning each time. Douglas will host second place Marshfield on Friday for the regular season finale. North Bend hosts the 1-8 Siuslaw Vikings. If both Douglas and North Bend win on Friday, there will be three-way tie for second place in the Far West League.
