NORTH BEND, OR – The South Umpqua boys failed to keep a hold on second place in the Far West League, as the Lancers dropped a road game against North Bend 36-24.
South Umpqua was down by 12 at halftime, but a rally was non-existent as both teams struggled to score in the second half. A combined 20 points were scored in the final two quarters. North Bend scored 10 points in the third quarter, but was held scoreless in the fourth. South Umpqua netted a total of 10 points in all of the second half.
The two teams are now tied for second place with 5-2 records. They trail Marshfield by two games, but have a three game lead on fourth place Brookings-Harbor. The top three teams in the FWL will make the post season. The league champ gets an auto bid to the state playoffs, while second place hosts a play-in game and third place hits the road.
