WINCHESTER, OR – In a critical matchup against SW Oregon on Wednesday, the Umpqua men and women came through with a pair of very important victories. The Umpqua teams were looking to cement themselves in the race for a trip to the NWAC Championship tournament by beating the Lakers.
The women upended SWOCC 98-71 behind a 33-point performance from Sawyer Kluge, who hit 7-of-8 three point attempts. Anna Mumm was right behind Kluge with 32 points and 17 rebounds. Former Sutherlin standout Ricki Mock led SW Oregon with a season-high 16 points.
The UCC men pulled off a 93-82 victory over SWOCC. Charles Porter scored a game-high 25 points for the Riverhawks and Mikko Balmes chipped in 20. Former South Umpqua star Erik Johnson scored nine points for the Lakers.
The Umpqua women remain tied with Clackamas for second place, 2.5 games behind Lane. The Umpqua men broke their tie with SW Oregon and sit alone fourth place.
Up next, Umpqua will host Portland on Saturday.
