WINCHESTER, OR – Wednesday brings a couple of big contests for the Umpqua Riverhawks, as the men and women’s teams prepare to host SW Oregon.
The women are coming off a surprising loss to Mt. Hood on Saturday and the Lady Riverhawks have dropped three of their last five games. UCC is sitting tied for second place with Clackamas and another loss could start to put their post season hopes in jeopardy. The Umpqua and SWOCC women tipoff at 5:30 from UCC.
The men’s game will follow and there are plenty of playoff ramifications on the line. Umpqua and SW Oregon are tied for fourth in the South Region, where only the top four teams make the NWAC tournament. The winner will gain the upper-hand in the race to the championship bracket. The men tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
The matchup between Umpqua and SW Oregon means a return trip back home for a couple of Douglas County natives. Former Sutherlin standout Ricki Mock has been averaging six points a game for the Lady Lakers, while former South Umpqua sharp-shooter Erik Johnson has played in 21 games and is averaging 13 points per contest.
