The process to officially replace Roseburg football coach Thurman Bell has begun. On Wednesday, the Roseburg School District posted a job opening for head football coach at Roseburg High School.

The job postingÊsays RHS is seeking Òa highly qualified individualÓ to replace Bell, who spent 45 years as the Indians head coach and amassed the most wins of any coach at the big school level. Athletic Director Russ Bolin explains what heÕll look for in a coaching candidate.

To help in selecting the best candidate, Bolin says the school has posted a survey on the high school and school district websites for people in the community to give their input on what they feel will make a great head coach. ItÕs the first time the school has reached out for public input in this manner and Bolin details what he hopes to get out of it.

Applications for the coaching position will be accepted until February 26. Bolin says they are searching for a person that will be able to teach or work at the high school campus. That was one of the biggest reasons why Bell felt it was time to retire. He said on multiple occasions that the head coach should be around the student-athletes during school hours and not just after school during practices and games.

To apply for the job, interested applicants can go to the Roseburg School District website. All applicants are required to complete an online Talent Ed Recruit & Hire application, a cover letter, letters of recommendation, and references. Bolin says interviews are expected to take place the first weeks of March and a final decision is anticipated by mid-March.
