Roseburg junior Layne Van Anrooy continues to excel on the wrestling mat as the two-time state champ won another individual championship Saturday at another top national tournament. Van Anrooy was crowned the 160-pound champion at the Doc Buchanan Invitational after winning by a 3-1 decision over top-seeded Justin Thomas from California. ItÕs Van AnrooyÕs second title at the Doc Buchanan meet. Last year he also beat Thomas in the championship bout at 152-pounds.
Joining Van Anrooy on the podium was Bennett Mesa, who placed 7th at 126-pounds. RoseburgÕs Cody Pickle and Will Reddekopp were both one win away from placing for the Indians.
Roseburg finished 11th overall out of 96 teams.Ê
