The Sutherlin girls and boys both won trophies on the final day of the Vince Dulcich Christmas Tournament in Astoria Wednesday.

The Lady Bulldogs brought home their third tournament title this month with a 43-22 win over the host team Astoria in the championship game Wednesday night. The Bulldogs defense was stellar again holding Astoria to just two points in the first and fourth quarters.

Junior Taylor Stricklin had a huge night with 24 points, including 16 points in the first half. Kayce Mock added nine and it was never in doubt as the Bulldogs led 17-2 after one, and took a 22-point lead into the halftime break.

The Bulldogs improved to 12-1 for the season with their only loss to Del Norte from Crescent City, CA on Dec. 11th, which stopped their 60-game win streak. They have won seven in a row since that loss.

The Sutherlin boys rebounded from a loss to Astoria Tuesday night with a 70-55 win over Clatskanie, a 3A school.

The Tigers led by six at halftime, but the Bulldogs finally found the range and exploded in the second half scoring 47 points and pulling away for their second victory and third place in the Astoria tournament.

The Bulldogs had four players in double figures with Cody Brownson and Wryland McKnight leading the pack with with 19 points each. Jackson Shelton had 12 and Bowen Briggs added 11. Sutherlin is now 7-6 while Clatskanie fell to 5-5.

The Bulldogs boys and girls host Brookings-Harbor in a non-league contest Tuesday night in their first home game since Dec. 5th, and their final games before Sky-Em League play starts on January 15th at Sisters.
