ROSEBURG – The Roseburg Doc Stewart’s American Legion baseball team extended its winning streak to four games with a 7-4 win over Klamath Falls in game one of a doubleheader on Monday, but the streak came to an end with a 5-3 loss in the nightcap at Legion Field.

The Doc’s (10-20-1; 5-9 Area 4) scored in every inning except the first in game one, but struggled to separate from the Falcons early on. With the game tied 3-3 going to the fourth inning, Klamath Falls scored a run on a wild pitch from Doc’s starter Dalton McHugill to go in front 4-3. The Doc’s responded by scoring twice in the bottom of the fourth to take their first lead of the game.

McHugill and Braxton Beerbohm combined to hold Klamath Falls (15-17; 6-8 Area 4) scoreless over the final three innings. Meanwhile, the Doc’s added a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Dustin Eakin and a run in the sixth on a single by Cam Lierman to pull ahead 7-4.

Beerbohm closed the door in the seventh with a 1-2-3 inning and earned his second save of the year. McHugill qualified for the win, his first of the season.

Shawn Rigsby, Chris Stone, and Cam Lierman all finished with two hits in the game. Stone went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two walks, a run scored, and a RBI.

In game two, the Doc’s had to play catch-up after falling behind 2-0 through two innings. Roseburg got on the board by manufacturing a run in the third with a pair of sacrifice bunts that scored Terrell Jacks, who led off the inning with a single.

The Doc’s still trailed 3-2 going to the sixth inning, but Dustin Eakin tied the game with a two-out single up the middle. The momentum didn’t last long though, as Klamath Falls retook the lead in the top of the seventh on three straight hits, including two doubles.

Zack Mandera pitched a close game, but took the loss. He surrendered eight hits and four earned runs. Darin Brown took the win, pitching all seven innings and allowing just five hits, while striking out five Doc’s batters.

A bright spot in a poor-hitting game two was that Shawn Rigsby and Zack Watkins both extended their hit streaks to six games. That’s tied with Will Reddekopp for the second longest streak of the season. Reddekopp has the longest hit streak this year with a seven-game run near the start of the season.

Up next, the Doc’s will host the Grants Pass Nuggets for a make-up league doubleheader on Tuesday. The twin bill was originally scheduled for June 15, but was rained out and rescheduled. Game one begins at 6 p.m. and broadcast coverage starts at 5:45 p.m. on 1490 The Score and online at 541radio.com on the Doc Stewart’s Homepage.
