PORTLAND – The Roseburg bats went quite in the second round of the state playoffs Wednesday and the Central Catholic Rams shutout the Indians 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Sophomores Dylan MacLean and Jackson Elder combined to allow just seven hits to the Indians, but more importantly stranded 10 Roseburg runners on base. MacLean tossed six shutout innings to earn the win and Elder polished off the victory with a clean seventh.

Meanwhile, the Rams got their bats started early. Patrick Muskat hit a two-out solo home run in the first inning off of Roseburg starter Cody Johnson to give Central Catholic a 1-0 lead. Christian Cooney scored a run in the third on an infield single by Dillon McNeil and the Rams pulled ahead 2-0.

Daniel Jefferies led off the fourth inning with a double down the left field line. He later scored on a bunt single and started a four-run frame for Central Catholic.

Johnson was pulled from the game after the fourth and Jace Stoffal took over. He held Central Catholic hitless and struck out three over the final two innings, but the Indians’ offense couldn’t muster any support.

Roseburg’s (18-8) best chances to score came later in the game. The Indians had a runner in scoring position in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.

Central Catholic (24-5) moves on to face Clackamas in the quarterfinals on Friday.
