ROSEBURG – The season came to an end for the Roseburg boys basketball team on Tuesday night in rather familiar fashion. After battling to stay close with the Grants Pass Cavemen for three quarters, the Indians couldn’t muster up the run needed they needed to come out on top.

Grants Pass scored 23 points in the fourth quarter to edge Roseburg 55-44 in the season finale for both programs.

The Indians and Cavemen traded the lead back-and-forth over the first two quarters. Neither team led by more than three points, but Grants Pass was in front 22-19 at the break.

In the third quarter, Grants Pass came out determined and pulled ahead to a nine-point lead. The Indians managed to fight their way back and headed to the fourth quarter down only six.

The fourth quarter Tuesday night was much like the fourth quarter on January 31, when the two teams met in Grants Pass. The Cavemen managed to pull away from the Indians by making their free throws.

Grants Pass (6-17; 3-9 SWC) attempted 22 free throws in the final period and made 16 of them. Roseburg (5-19; 2-10 SWC) had its best scoring quarter with 18 points, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the Cavemen.

Collin Warmouth was the lone Roseburg player to reach double figures. He finished with 10 points on a tough shooting night. He shot just 3-for-13 from the field (23%) and was 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

Grants Pass finished with three players in double figures, led by Spencer Crume, who had 16. Tayler Phillips added 14 points and Taylor Anderson chipped in 11.

The loss spoiled senior night for four Roseburg players. Graduating from the program are Michael Lookabaugh, Matthew Stone, Jack Christner, and Treven Jacks. Lookabaugh had a memorable night, scoring a season-high five points and making critical plays during an important stretch of the second quarter.

Roseburg will graduate only one starter from this year’s team and should return a solid core of players for next year.
