EUGENE – The Umpqua men’s basketball team built a big first half lead and held off Lane in the second half to win 85-75 in Eugene Wednesday night.

The Riverhawks led by 22 at the break, but the Titans cut the margin down by outscoring UCC 45-33 in the second half. Umpqua pulled ahead thanks to hot 3-point shooting in the first half. The Riverhawks made 7-of-13 attempts from behind the arc, but cooled in the second half making only 1-of-6.

Darrin Gethers scored 20 to lead the way for the Riverhawks and Jake Stephens, a 2015 Roseburg graduate, scored a career-high 15 points off the bench.

The Umpqua men still hold a 1.5 game lead over Chemeketa for first in the South Region. With four games left to play, the UCC men could still finish outside of the playoff picture if they lost the remainder of their games. The Riverhawks are two wins away from clinching a playoff berth.

Up next for Umpqua is a trip to Portland Community College on Saturday. The men tipoff at 4 p.m.
