ROSEBURG – The top-ranked Roseburg wrestling team took down Crook County, ranked No. 2 in the 4A classification, in the Indians vs Cowboys dual at Roseburg High School on Saturday.

The Tribe won 11 of 13 matches for a 57-9 victory, dominating the non-conference contest between two of the state’s most successful programs in the last decade.

The Indians got falls from Thomas Spence at 126 pounds, Bennett Mesa at 132, Matthew McDowell at 170 and Austin Harris at 182. Other winners were Layne Van Anrooy, Haydn Maley, Tristin David, Garrett Russell, Austin David, Shane Sabins and Cameron Campbell. Hunter Sparks won by forfeit.

Roseburg and Crook County have been the two most dominate programs in the state over the last four years. The two teams have combined to win seven of the last eight team state titles in the 6A and 4A classifications. Over the past two seasons, Roseburg and Crook County have battled with the road team claiming victory in a non-conference dual. The Indians also topped the Cowboys last season in Prineville.

Up next for the Indians is the final conference dual of the season. The Tribe rounds out the regular season with a home match against Grants Pass on Thursday. It will be senior night for the Indians.

Roseburg will also host the Southwest Conference District meet on Feb. 17 and 18. Tickets are $6 per session for adults or $4 per session for students. An all sessions tournament pass can be purchased for $12 (adults) or $4 (students). The tournament will be made up of three sessions; Friday, Saturday morning, and finals on Saturday night.
