COOS BAY – The Douglas volleyball team took care of business on Monday to earn a share of the 2016 Far West League title. The Lady Trojans won 3-1 against Marshfield to finish tied for first place with the Siuslaw Vikings.

Senior Rachel Hickam had a big night for the Trojans, recording 13 kills and 15 digs. Fellow senior Darian Mitchell added 11 kills, eight digs, and three stuff blocks. Molly Lavin-Williams had 31 assists for Douglas.

Siuslaw and Douglas will now meet in a one-game league playoff to determine seeding on Tuesday. The game will be played on a neutral floor at North Bend High School at 7 p.m. The winner will claim the top-seed and earn an automatic berth in the first round of the state playoffs. The loser will be the second seed and will host a play-in game over the next week.

Douglas won two out of three matches against Siuslaw this season. The first victory came in tournament play at the start of October, while the most recent win was one week ago.

The Lady Trojans have not reached the first round of the 4A state playoffs since 2010. Douglas has been close the past two seasons, but has lost in the play-in round each year.
