MYRTLE CREEK – The South Umpqua baseball team was rewarded for its second place finish by landing five players on the Far West All-League first team after voting by the league’s coaches on Sunday. That’s the most of any team in the league and the Lancers tied league champion North Bend for the most players honored in the All-League voting with eight.

South Umpqua had three repeat first team selections this season. Senior Hunter Buchanan earned first team honors as a pitcher for the Lancers, following last years nomination as an outfielder. Senior Shawn Rigsby was selected for a second consecutive season as a first team All-League infielder. Junior Cody Gray made the first team list for a second time, this year as an infielder. Last year he was voted first team as a utility player. Other players awarded first team honors from South Umpqua were outfielder Tristin Gross, who was an honorable mention selection last year, and sophomore John Warner.

The South Umpqua Lancers had one player on the second team and two on honorable mention. The Lancers host Scappoose for a play-in round game on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Joining the first team selections was Douglas senior Charlie Osborne, who was nominated for his play at first base. Overall the Trojans had four players earn All-League status.
