WINSTON – The Douglas softball team had been one win away from clinching the Far West League title since last week, but the Lady Trojans finally cleared that hurdle with a 6-0 win over Siuslaw on Monday.

The win means Douglas has earned its first softball league title since 2012 and the Trojans will have an automatic berth into the first round of the state playoffs when the regular season ends later this week. The Lady Trojans finish their league season at North Bend on Tuesday and visit Henley on Thursday for a non-league contest to wrap-up the regular season.

While Douglas softball has clinched its post season fate, playoff spots are on the line for many other Umpqua Basin prep baseball and softball teams on Tuesday.

The Roseburg baseball team is looking to finish strong in the final week of the regular season after falling to fourth place over the weekend. The Indians do not control their own playoff destiny. Roseburg will need help, in the form of losses, from South Medford and/or South Eugene, as both teams hold the edge on the Indians for the final two automatic playoff spots.

The Indians face Willamette over the final week. The two teams will play three times, starting with Tuesday’s single contest in Eugene. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and pregame coverage starts at 4:15 p.m. on 1490 The Score and 541radio.com.

The Roseburg softball was originally scheduled to head north on Tuesday to face Willamette, but the game has been moved to Wednesday.  The Indians need just one more win to secure a playoff berth and two more wins over the final three games will clinch Roseburg the second seed out of the Southwest Conference. Roseburg begins play against Willamette at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians finish the regular season with a doubleheader against Thurston on Friday.

Elsewhere, the Glide baseball team is hoping to get the edge in the race for the Mt. Valley Conference on Tuesday. The Wildcats are tied with Pleasant Hill for first place and the two teams face off in a doubleheader in Glide on Tuesday. Previously, Glide beat the Billies 8-5 in a road contest in April. A win for the Wildcats would give them the head-to-head tiebreaker over Pleasant Hill. Glide and Pleasant Hill start play at 2 p.m.
