CORVALLIS Christian Donahue’s walk with the bases loaded in the ninth inning capped a comeback for 10th-ranked Oregon State in a 3-2 victory over Stanford Friday night in front of 3,086 at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.

Donahue’s walk on a 3-1 pitch merely completed the ninth-inning comeback, which featured a perfect bunt single and an error on the nation’s top defensive team.

Logan Ice battled, and laced a 3-2 single to right field to open the inning. He advanced to third when, Trever Morrison, who attempted a sacrifice bunt, reached when Stanford reliever Colton Hock bounced a throw to center field. That led to a perfect bunt by pinch hitter Steven Kwan, who pulled one down the first base line. The ball narrowly stayed fair to tie the game at two.

Kyle Nobach moved Morrison and Kwan to second and third, and the bases then loaded when Billy King walked on a 3-2 pitch. That setup Donahue’s 3-1 walk, with the final pitch coming in high.

The win sent the Beavers (27-11 overall, 9-7 Pac-12 Conference) to their 12th consecutive victory over the Cardinal, and Oregon State has now won 15 of its last 16 against Stanford.

Bryce Fehmel, who worked a perfect ninth inning, picked up the win to improve to 7-1 on the year. His seven wins are now second in the Pac-12.

Fehmel backed up Travis Eckert, whose start lasted eight innings. He scattered seven hits and two runs, striking out five on 111 pitches.

Hock took the loss, dropping to 3-4 on the year. He backed up Stanford (19-17, 7-9) starter Tristan Beck, who worked seven innings. He allowed four hits and a run with five strikeouts.

Beck’s lone blemish came in the fourth when KJ Harrison hit a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence. The solo shot was his sixth home run of the season and pulled the Beavers to within one, 2-1.

The Cardinal opened the game with a run in the first when Quinn Brodey reached on a fielder’s choice. Stanford made it 2-0 in the top half of the fourth when Bryce Carter hit a sacrifice fly to left.

The teams continue the series Saturday with a 1:35 p.m. first pitch at Goss Stadium. The game can be heard on 1490 The Score following Roseburg baseball.
