BAKER CITY, OR – The Yoncalla boys are perfect no more. After going 27-0 to advance to the state quarterfinals on Thursday, the Eagles lost their first game of the year to Damascus Christian, 45-42, on a buzzer-beater 3-pointer.

The contest was built on a series of runs, with both sides taking significant leads only to see the other team rally back. Trailing by two, Yoncalla senior Will Shaw tied the game at 42-all with 26-seconds left to play. After multiple timeouts Damascus Christian had the ball with seven seconds remaining. Senior Ben Shields hit the dagger shot as the clock ran down to triple zeros.

Shields led Damascus Christian with 18 points. He was a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the 3-point line. Yoncalla senior Zack Van Loon had 18 points to lead the Eagles.

With the loss, the Yoncalla boys drop into the consolation bracket for a second consecutive season. The Eagles face Crosshill Christian in an elimination game at 9:30 a.m. Friday. The winner advances to the fourth place game on Saturday, which Yoncalla won last year, the loser is done for the year. Tune in to hear the game on 1490 The Score.
